Host Regional Assignments

The GlobalViewer® Host Regional Assignments option gives you the ability to set up an entire AV network and provide some users with GlobalViewer access to the entire network and limited, or regional, GlobalViewer access to other users.

Example

The diagram below illustrates a small university whose AV network spans four different buildings.  The Host Regional Assignments have been set up so that the following rules apply:

  1. Users who have access to the GlobalViewer host device in the Campus Administration Building are able to monitor and control devices across the entire AV network.

  2. Users who have access to the GlobalViewer host device in the School of Business Building can only monitor and control the AV devices in the School of Business Building.

  3. Users who have access to the GlobalViewer host device in the School of Engineering Building can only monitor and control the AV devices in the School of Engineering Building.

  4. Users who have access to the GlobalViewer host device in the School of Medicine Building can only monitor and control the AV devices in the School of Medicine Building.

By using the Host Regional Assignments function, you can assign global or regional access to the devices on your AV network.  The Host Regional Assignments function is flexible enough to set up any type of regional access scenario based on your AV network configuration.

To create Host Regional Assignments:

  1. In the IP Link® Tree window, click the GlobalViewer® tab.

  2. In the GlobalViewer Designer section, set the desired device locations (see the Device Locations section).

  1. Click the GlobalViewer® Host Regional Assignments button.  The GlobalViewer Host Regional Assignments dialog box opens (see below).

  1. Click and drag each desired location from the Locations section to each desired GlobalViewer host device in the GlobalViewer Host Assignments section.

- or -

Select a location in the Locations section and a GlobalViewer host in the GlobalViewer Host Assignments section.  Then, click the Right Arrow button.

Note:  By default, if no locations are assigned to a GlobalViewer host, it will have access to all locations.

Example

In the example below:

  • GlobalViewer host, System 5 IP / Administration, has not been assigned a location, so by default, it has a global view of ALL locations.

  • GlobalViewer host, System 5 IP / Business, has been assigned access to only the AV devices in the Business Building.

  • GlobalViewer host, System 5 IP / Engineering, has been assigned access to only the AV devices in the Engineering Building.

  • GlobalViewer host, System 5 IP / Medicine, has been assigned access to only the AV devices in the Medicine Building.

To view a GlobalViewer page:

  1. Open an Internet browser.

  2. In the Address field of the browser, enter the IP address of a GlobalViewer host.

  3. Press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.

Example

In the example below, we entered the IP address of System 5 IP / Administration which has a global view of all devices, so all of the GlobalViewer host locations are viewable.

If we entered the IP address of the Business, Engineering, or Medicine Building host device, we would only have access to the folder for the respective building.
