IR Remote Tab

The Extron IR 402 is an optional handheld device that provides infrared (IR) remote control of the:

  • System 5 IP switcher

  • MLC 226 IP controller

  • SCP 150 or SCP 226 Secondary Control Panels

  • Input and Output devices (such as a VCR, DVD player, projector, or display)

Since you have many choices for the input and output devices connected to your AV network, the IR 402 remote control DISPLAY, DVD, and VCR buttons are non-functional until you select a device driver for each input and output device and configure the button operations in the IR Remote tab of Global Configurator.

These general rules apply to configuring the buttons:

  • The button captions (such as REW, PLAY, and FWD) are preset and cannot be changed.

  • The Tool Tip field is not active on this screen.

  • The options in the Repeat Rate drop-down list set the time interval between repetitions of the command if the button on the remote is held down.

  • There are two different button modes for the IR remote control buttons:

  • Single Switch (Default) Assigns one specific operation (such as power on a device).

  • Toggle Assigns two different operations for subsequent presses of the same button.  If we apply the Toggle mode to a button, the initial press causes one action and the next press causes a second action to occur.

  • The graphical representation of the remote control button panel shown in GC does not appear in the GlobalViewer® graphical user interface.

To configure an IR remote control button:

  1. In the IR Remote section of the IR Remote tab, select a button (see below).

  2. In the Button Operations section, expand the desired device driver by clicking the + sign.

  3. Expand the desired operation folder by clicking the + sign.

  4. Click and drag the desired function to either the Press or Release section.  A red triangle in the top, left corner of the associated button (1) indicates that the button has been configured.

In the example below the Play function is associated with the PLAY button in the DVD device driver.  If the IR 402 handheld remote control is pointed at the System 5 IP and the DVD PLAY button is pressed, the DVD player connected to the System 5 IP serial port begins its Play function.

Note:  All of the DISPLAY, AUDIO, VCR, and DVD button functions  must be configured in the IR Remote tab for them to be operational.

The Relay, Time Delay, and User Defined tabs in the Button Operations section allow you to add more button operations to each button.
